Many Instant Pot Casserole Recipes will call for you to layering your food in your Instant Pot. You will want to use the trivet that came with your Instant Pot or a vegetable steamer to separate layers.

Casseroles have been around longer than you might think! The word “casserole” is a French word that means ” saucepan.” Early casseroles were pans of rice layered with meat and vegetables. Think lasagna, Greek Mousakka, and Shepherd’s Pie. American “Hot Dish” became popular in the 19th century because casseroles were a very economical way of stretching meat and vegetables. There is no right way to make a casserole, and I encourage you to use what you have on hand for these recipes.
