If you like making cream cheese mints for weddings and baby showers, then you NEED to try this cream cheese mint recipe using oreo cookies! These candies were a huge hit with my kids. This recipe will be a huge hit at any family gathering, and you will love how the oreo cookies taste with the peppermint flavor!
In the Midwest, cream cheese butter mints, also known as wedding mints or baby shower mints, are popular at baby showers, baptisms, communions, and holidays. My mother-in-law owns a cream cheese mint mold for almost every occasion, but you can press them down with a fork to mold them. All you need is 15 minutes of prep time and a few ingredients to make this easy candy recipe that will melt everyone’s heart at your next event!
Ingredients Needed
4 ounces of cream cheese or 1/2 a block of cream cheese at room temperature
One tablespoon of softened butter
Four oreo cookies crushed.
1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract – I recommend peppermint extract instead of mint extract unless you want the mint to taste like toothpaste
4 cups of powdered sugar
Equipment Needed
Electric hand mixer or stand mixer
Baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper
Fork
Cookie scoop
Refrigerator
Instructions
Mix softened cream cheese, softened butter, peppermint extract, and crushed oreo cookies in a large bowl.
Add 1 cup of powdered sugar at a time and mix well to form a dough.
Scoop up 1/2 inch balls of the mixture and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper.
Press down each mint with a fork.
Place the mints in the fridge for at least one hour. The mints should be hard when they are ready to eat. Keep the mints in the fridge right before serving.
Optional Ingredients:
You can add red or green food coloring if you make these for the Christmas holiday. You can add blue food coloring if they look like ” Cookie Monster” mints.
There are tons of cream cheese mint molds you can order. If you choose to make these using candy molds, you will want to pop the mint dough into the mold after you roll it into a ball. You may need to estimate how much dough to add based on how big your mold is
Storage
you can store these mints in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 14 days and in the freezer for up to a year. If you choose to freeze them, you will want to thaw them at room temperature for at least an hour before serving them.
