Instant Pot Stew Meat Sloppy Joes

by Kristen

These gooey pressure-cooked stew meat sloppy joes are so flavorful and rich tasting.  They taste like they have been slow cooking all day long, but they cook up in your Instant Pot in less than 30 minutes.  I have started loving cooking stew meat in my Instant Pot! not only can you cook stew meat into a variety of meals in less than 30 minutes, but the beef will cook up so tender and flavorful it will melt in. Your mouth!

I love my Instant Pot’s ability to cook inexpensive cuts of meat into tender, mouthwatering meals.  This recipe tastes fancy enough for a special occasion but is incredibly easy and takes less than 30 minutes from start to finish.  My Iowa-born husband, who knows good beef approved, as did all three of my kids.  These sandwiches are budget-friendly but taste more like a more expensive cut of meat when pressure cooked. This was an awesome way to switch up sloppy joes!  In my opinion, these seemed fancier than ground beef sloppy joes. These sandwiches are definitely going to be added to our dinner rotation! These sloppy joes were sloppy, gooey, sweet, savory, and satisfying!

Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds beef stew meat
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 celery stalk
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 15 ounce can sloppy joe sauce
  • 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Cut stew meat into smaller slices. I use kitchen shears for this task.

  2. Set your Instant Pot to the saute setting.

  3. Add olive oil, garlic, celery, and onion. Saute until onions are translucent.

  4. Add beef. Brown beef, but don't worry about cooking it all the way through.

  5. Add sloppy joe sauce, Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, and brown sugar. Mix everything together.

  6. Close Instant Pot and secure lid. Set the pressure release valve to "sealing"

  7. Cook on high pressure for 8 minutes.

  8. Quick release pressure

  9. Set the Instant pot to the saute setting once again to thicken the sloppy joes.

  10. Saute for about 10 minutes, stirring every few minutes until the sloppy joes are thickened

  11. Build your sandwiches and serve!

These sloppy joes are mouthwatering!  We served them with mashed potatoes, but they also tasted good with tater tots, greek potatoes, or broccoli salad! Let me know how this recipe turned out for you! Comment below or tag me on social media!
