I realize that it’s still August and super hot. But I keep seeing Halloween costumes displayed in stores and the kids in my town have been back in school for almost a week. That is CRAZY!
In addition to pumpkin everything, crunchy leaves, cooler weather and football, I am also looking forward to caramel apples and really just apples in general.
I LOVE dehydrated apples. my mom always made dehydrated apple slices at least once a year. They are soooo flavorful, packed with flavor!
But what if I just brushed them with a little bit of caramel? because who really eats an entire caramel apple anyway?
I have been buying green apples lately. E loves apples slices, but we were in a red apple rut, so to switch things up, I decided to get a few rounds of green apples. They’re perfectly tart and sweet at the same time.
Caramel Green Apple Chips
Ingredients
Green Apples and Caramel
1) Slice green apples into thin slices. As thin as you can make them.
2) Using a pastry brush- brush a small amount of caramel on each apple slice
3) Dehydrate in your Dehydrator for 14 hours or until your desired crispiness is achieved.
Note #1 If you don’t have a dehydrator, you can bake the apple slices in the oven at 200 degrees for 2 hours, flipping them 1/2 way through.
Note #2 I used caramel from the store, but there are healthier recipes for caramel on the internet you can make. Coconut Caramel, Apple juice caramel just plug ” healthy caramel” into your pinterest search bar, and a ton of recipes will show up.
I personally think they taste the best when they are SUPER crispy. It’s best to eat them right away, if you leave them out too long, especially in this humidity for very long they will get soft FAST.
These little babies were gobbled up fast. When I find some more free time, I can’t wait to make some more.
