These Christmas tree-shaped cream cheese mints are a quick, no-bake dessert recipe you can make with your kids for the holidays!

Prep time: 15 minutes

Chill time: 1 hour

Total time: 1 hour and 15 minutes

Cream Cheese mints are a classic dessert here in the Midwest.  Cream Cheese mints are also known as Christmas Mints, Wedding Mints, or Baby Shower Mints.  These are easy to throw together in no time and are always a huge hit with guests around the holidays.   Usually, cream cheese mints are shaped in a circle, but I decided to mold these slightly differently to make these candies look like Christmas Trees!

I love this old-fashioned recipe!  You can serve these at bridal showers, Halloween, Easter, or any other occasion with friends and family you can think of!

Ingredients Needed

4 ounces of softened cream cheese

One tablespoon of softened butter

Four cups of powdered sugar. Depending on the consistency of your mints, you may need less or additional powdered sugar.

1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract

Green Food Coloring   food coloring or gel food coloring.

Mini chocolate chips  to use as the tree trunk

Star Sprinkles for the top of the Christmas Tree.

Equipment

Large bowl

baking sheets, cookie sheet, or sheet pan

Hand mixerstand mixer, or a spatula for mixing. Avoid using a whisk to mix this recipe.

parchment paper or wax paper

Note: Please use” peppermint” extract in this recipe, not ” mint” extract. The mint extract will make your mints taste like toothpaste. You will love the mint flavor of the peppermint extract. Do not add extra drops.   Peppermint extract can be potent!

Instructions

1. Add softened cream cheese, softened butter, and peppermint extract in a bowl. Combine cream cheese with the extract and food coloring.

*note: you may soften cream cheese and butter in the microwave, but ensure the butter does not melt.

2. Add powdered sugar,  1 cup at a time, and stir the sugar until the cream cheese has a dough-like consistency. The texture of the mixture should not be sticky.

3. mold small spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture into something like a  triangle using a butter knife on a baking sheet lined with parchment or wax paper.

4. Press mints down with the tines of a fork.   Add one mini chocolate chip to the bottom of each mint to make it look like the tree trunk.  Add one star-shaped sprinkle to the top of each tree cream cheese mints

5. Store in the refrigerator for at least an hour before eating.  Bring out the mints to room temperature about 20 minutes before serving

Get Creative with flavor!

I used the classic mint extract with these pumpkin-shaped cream cheese mints. I used the classic mint extract with these pumpkin-shaped cream cheese mints. However, you can add vanilla extract, almond extract, or another extract.

What are other ways you can make these mints into a Christmas tree shape?

1. You can roll the cream cheese mint dough out with a rolling pin and cut it into triangles using a butter knife or a cookie cutter.

2. You can use a candy mold.  Here is a mint mold I like.

3. You can use a piping bag to create a Christmas tree.

Storage

store cream cheese mints in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks.  You can also freeze these cream cheese mints.    If you are storing them in the freezer, store them in a freezer bag, separating single layers with wax or parchment paper.

Using a fork to make these look like pumpkins is much easier than using a candy mold.
