In the Midwest, cream cheese mints are often found at weddings, weddings, and baby showers.  During the holidays, they are also known as “Christmas Mints.”  These tiny treats are the perfect ending to any holiday meal.   This no-bake recipe is an easy dessert to whip up on the day of any holiday gathering.

Cream Cheese Mints can be made with just a few ingredients:

4 ounces of softened cream cheese

One tablespoon of butter at room temperature

Four drops of peppermint extract

Four drops of vanilla extract

Four cups of powdered sugar are added to the dough one cup at a time.

One tablespoon of sprinkles

Optional: food coloring

Equipment

Large bowl

baking sheets or sheet pan

Hand mixer or a spatula for mixing.  Avoid using a whisk to mix this recipe.

parchment paper or wax paper

Note: Please use” peppermint” extract in this recipe, not ” mint” extract.  The mint extract will make your mints taste like toothpaste.  Peppermint will taste much better!  Do not add extra drops.   Peppermint extract can be very strong!

Instructions

1. Add softened cream cheese, softened butter, peppermint extract, and vanilla extract in a bowl.  Mix well.

2. Add powdered sugar,  1 cup at a time, and stir the sugar until you get a dough-like batter mixture that is not sticky.

3. Add sprinkles and mix in well.

3. Roll 1/2-inch balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment or wax paper.

4. Press mints down with a fork.  You can also choose to use a candy mold to mold them.

5. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before eating.

Storage

store your cream cheese mints in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks and the freezer for up to one year.   If you are storing them in the freezer, store them in a freezer bag, separating single layers with wax paper or parchment paper.

You can choose to get creative with this recipe.  If you don’t like mint, you can add lemon, cherry orange, or almond extract.  Christmas Cream Cheese mints make great gifts for the holiday season or any special occasion.  Because this recipe uses simple ingredients, it is easy to use this recipe as a blank slate for your creativity!    Cream cheese mints make a great addition to cookie trays during the holiday season.  It is lovely to have a Christmas dessert recipe you don’t need an oven for!
