Love the warm, cozy flavors of French toast? These French toast cookies are like breakfast and dessert rolled into one! These cookies have a cozy cinnamon-maple flavor that tastes like breakfast!

What makes these taste like French toast?

It’s the combo of cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and that sweet maple glaze—classic French toast flavor in every bite. These French toast cookies have a soft and chewy texture with crispy edges, making them perfect for brunch, fall gatherings, or as a gift.  These taste like breakfast, but you’ll want to eat them all day long!

Ingredients

1/2 cup of butter, softened

1/4 cup cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1/4 cup maple syrup

1 egg

1 1/3 cup flour

1/2 teaspoon of baking soda

1/2  teaspoon of baking powder

1/4 teaspoon of salt

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 nutmeg

Cinnamon Sugar Mixture

Powdered Sugar

Optional toppings: maple frosting, fruit, whipped cream, and anything you would top your waffles with

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Cream butter and cream cheese together in a large bowl using a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add the sugars (brown and granulated), and beat until light and creamy.
  4. Mix in the maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract until fully incorporated. The batter may look slightly curdled at this stage—that’s normal!
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until no dry streaks remain. Don’t overmix.
  7. Scoop dough into balls and roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. Place the dough balls 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are set and golden brown. The centers may look a little soft—they’ll continue to set as they cool.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
