Copycat Hyvee Fiesta Ranch DIp

by Kristen

This easy Hy-Vee Fiesta Ranch Dip is a creamy, cheesy copycat of the beloved Midwest deli favorite that’s perfect for parties and game days.

In Iowa, Hy-Vee isn’t just a grocery store.  It’s our Chinese restaurant.  The deli always has something new to tempt us, but the Fiesta Ranch Dip has always been reliable when we need something to bring to a potluck.   Fiesta Ranch has shown up for football Sundays, graduation parties, book club, and those random Friday nights when dinner somehow turned into chips, veggies, and whatever everyone wanted to snack on.

After buying it more times than I can count, I finally decided it was time to make my own version at home. And honestly? I think this one might even be better. It’s loaded with cheddar cheese, green onions,  black olives, and a generous amount of taco seasoning. I actually use quite a bit more taco seasoning than ranch seasoning because I love that bold, savory flavor. If you like a little brightness, a squeeze of fresh lime at the end is a nice touch, too.

The best part is that it only takes a few minutes to stir together, and somehow it tastes even better the next day after everything has had a chance to mingle in the refrigerator. That’s always my favorite kind of recipe.

Ingredients

Sour cream

Ranch seasoning

Taco seasoning

Shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Chopped Tomatoes

Chopped Black Olives

Green onions

Fresh lime juice ( optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, add the ranch seasoning and taco seasoning to the sour cream.  Mix until everything is evenly combined.
  2. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese, chopped black olives, tomatoes, and sliced green onions. If you’re using fresh lime juice, stir it in now.
  3. Cover the dip and refrigerate for at least two hours, although overnight is even better if you can wait that long.
  4. Give the dip one final stir before serving.

Recipes Notes

  1. Freshly shredded cheddar gives the creamiest texture, but pre-shredded works just fine when you’re short on time.
  2. Make this the day before a party. The flavor gets even better after chilling overnight.
  3. If you want a little extra kick, add more taco seasoning or a few diced jalapeños.
  4. Leftovers make a fantastic spread on turkey wraps or sandwiches.

This recipe brings me right back to those Hy-Vee deli counters that so many of us Midwesterners grew up with. It’s simple, a little nostalgic, and exactly the kind of recipe that disappears long before halftime. Around here, that’s usually the best compliment a dip can get.
