Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Recipe note: You can replace the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and baking powder with self-rising flour in this recipe.
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips. You can also use milk chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips.
Equipment
Sheet Pan or baking sheet
A stand mixer with the paddle attachment or an electric mixer
Parchment Paper or nonstick cooking spray.
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F
- Line baking sheets with parchment paper or spray with cooking spray
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Mix in the egg and vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in sour cream and mix, but do not overmix.
- Gently stir in the chocolate chips.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto your prepared baking sheet.. Leave about 2 inches between cookies — they puff more than they spread.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to turn golden but the centers still look soft and pale.
- Let cookies sit on the baking sheet for 2–3 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
