Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Cream butter and cream cheese together in a large bowl using a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy.
Add the sugars (brown and granulated), and beat until light and creamy.
Mix in the maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract until fully incorporated. The batter may look slightly curdled at this stage.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until no dry streaks remain. Don’t overmix.
Scoop dough into balls and place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are set and golden brown. The centers may look a little soft.
Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
