Cinnamon Toast Crunch Apple Dump Cake Recipe (With A Cake Mix)

by Kristen

Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal is the ingredient you didn’t know you needed in your apple pie dump cake!   All you need to do is sprinkle the new cinnamon toast crunch cake mix on top of the apple pie filling and a few other ingredients, and you will have the perfect fall dessert! I suggest adding a scoop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream on top!   You can make this dump cake in the oven or your slow cooker. I have added instructions for both.

Dump cake is one of the easiest dessert recipes you can bake in the oven. You will love the taste of this perfect fall dessert! You must dump your ingredients into your pan or baking dish by layering the cake mix over your pie filling and bake it in the oven until you have the most delicious cobbler.

This cake is the easiest apple dessert. I decided to make this classic apple dump cake using the new cinnamon toast crunch cake mix now seen in stores.   If you can’t find this cake mix, I suggest using a spice cake mix with this recipe.

What is a Dump Cake?

A dump cake is an American dessert similar to a cobbler but has a topping made from cake mix. It is called a dump cake because it is made by ” Dumping” ingredients into a cake pan without mixing.

Ingredients Needed:

One can of apple pie filling

Three peeled fresh apples cut into wedges

One teaspoon of vanilla extract

1 Cinnamon Toast Crunch flavored cake mix- You can also use a spice or yellow cake mix. If you use a yellow cake mix, I would add some cinnamon.

1/2 cup of butter also one stick of butter

One cup of crushed cinnamon toast crunch cereal

Optional Ingredients: additional apple pie spices, caramel, almonds, or pecans can go on top of the cake mix.

Equipment:

9×13 casserole dish or crockpot

cooking spray

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 325 f

2. Prepare ingredients. Peel and slice apples, and cut butter into even slices. Spray the baking dish with cooking spray.

3. Place apple pie filling, apples, and vanilla extract into your baking dish and mix evenly.

4. Dump your cake mix over the apple pie filling. DO NOT MIX

5. Place slices of butter evenly over the cake mix.

6. Top off your cake with crushed cinnamon toast crunch and other toppings you want.

7. Bake in the oven for 1 hour or until your cake is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling.

8. Add additional cinnamon toast crunch for some extra crunch. If you are adding caramel, you can drizzle it on now.

9. Serve in a bowl with a dollop of whipped cream or a small scoop of vanilla ice cream

Can I make this meal in my slow cooker?

Yes! You can easily make this dump cake in your slow cooker.   Place the pie filling, apples, and vanilla into your slow cooker pot, followed by the cake mix, butter, and cinnamon toast crunch. Cook on Low for 2 hours. You may want to throw your slow cooker pot in the oven for a few minutes to crisp up the cinnamon toast crunch.
