Why would you add sour cream to cookies?
Sour cream gives these oatmeal cookies the most fantastic texture!
Moisture: Sour cream is high in moisture, contributing to a softer and more moist cookie. It helps prevent the cookies from becoming dry or crumbly.
Tenderness: The acidity in sour cream tenderizes the gluten in the flour, resulting in a more tender crumb and a softer texture overall.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2teaspoon salt
1 cup rolled oats – avoid using quick-cook oats in this recipe.
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup sour cream
Optional additional ingredients: cinnamon, nuts, walnuts, almonds, white chocolate chips, dried cranberries, or other chocolate goodies!
To make these cookies gluten-free, use gluten-free flour and convert it according to the instructions.
Recipe note: only use old-fashioned oats in this recipe; the texture will change greatly if you use steel-cut or quick oats.
