This Hawaiian roll strawberry shortcake recipe is easy, and the taste is spot on!  Who knew you could make your favorite dessert with buns leftover from your cookout?

What are Hawaiian Rolls?

King’s original Hawaiian sweet rolls are soft, slightly sweet bread rolls that originated in Hawaii. They are known for their fluffy texture,   golden color, and sweet flavor.  Sweet Hawaiian Rolls are often made with pineapple juice, honey, or sugar, contributing to their distinct sweet flavor. They are delicious in a variety of sweet and savory recipes!

Ingredients:

For the Strawberry Filling:

2 cups fresh chopped strawberries, hulled and sliced

1/4 cup granulated sugar

One tablespoon of lemon juice

For the Whipped Cream:

1 cup heavy whipping cream

Two tablespoons powdered sugar

One teaspoon of vanilla extract

For the Hawaiian Rolls:

One package (12 count) of Hawaiian sweet rolls

Instructions:

Prepare the Strawberry Filling: Combine the sliced strawberries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice in a bowl. Toss gently to coat the strawberries in sugar. Let the strawberry mixture sit for about 15-20 minutes to allow the strawberries to release their juices.

Make the Whipped Cream: In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream until it begins to thicken. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract and whip until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to over-whip. Scrape the sides of the bowl.

Prepare Hawaiian Roll Shortcakes: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Drizzle with butter and powdered sugar. Bake the Hawaiian rolls in the oven for 6-8 minutes or until they are slightly crispy and golden brown on the outside.  You can also choose to air fry the Hawaiian Rolls.  Remove Hawaiian rolls from the oven and let them cool.

Serve: Cut the rolls into individual servings. Scoop a cup of strawberries on top of the rolls, followed by whipped cream.

Optional Garnish: Garnish with additional sliced strawberries or mint leaves for added freshness. You can also choose to add ice cream or use ice cream instead of whipped cream.  You can also choose to drizzle cream cheese frosting or glaze over the top of this dessert.   If you are celebrating the 4th of July, add some blueberry.

Storage: if you have leftovers, store the Hawaiian rolls, strawberries, and whipped cream separately in an airtight container in the refrigerator.  Assemble right before eating.
