Orzo has always been one of my favorite pasta shapes. Â I discovered it young when my parents used to take me to the Greek Isles, the best Greek restaurant in Chicagoland.
I saw a tutorial online on how to make a DIY orzo, but this blogger used a knife to cut her orzo, I thought using kitchen shears would be much easier and faster.
Scroll down to see my first video tutorial ever. Â ( you will see that I am a newbie)
I used a basic pasta recipe. Â You can use any pasta recipe you like for this application. Â The best part about this DIY orzo? Â There is no pasta maker necessary!
You do need kitchen shears, though. Â I love my kitchen shears, I keep several pairs on hand.
Check out my video tutorial on how I cut this orzo. Â It wasn’t hard. Â Well, shooting the video was. Â I used my phone on a selfie stick, which was held up by a laundry basket. Â Maybe I’ll get better at this.
After you make your pasta dough, let it sit. Roll out your dough, and use your kitchen shears to cut pieces or orzo. Â If you have a hard time getting skinny “snakes” ( yes. I am taking you back to grade school). Use the shears to cut the dough in 1/2 vertically.
When your dough is complete, cook it for 4-6 minutes. Â I topped mine with just olive oil and parmesan cheese. Â ( although I was temped to add greek seasoning) Â My kids gobbled it up! Â They love their pasta!

do you have a recipe for the dough?
I love homemade pasta. I can’t wait to try this new method. 🙂
You make that look so easy! I’m definitely going to have to try making this, I know my husband loves Orzo pasta! Thank you for sharing! 🙂
I am so impressed. I’ve never made my own pasta this way before.
I absolutely love Orzo pasta, I’ll definitely give this recipe a try… especially because I can just use my kitchen scissors to prepare it!
Shears in the kitchen are a must. And I love orzo too.
You make it look so easy to make! It’s awesome that you just used shears to cut the pasta. I’ll try this soon!
This is so awesome. I wanna try this myself too. Love it!
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I have to admit that until about a year ago, I never even used kitchen shears. I was cutting up some chicken one day and my company asked why I wasn’t doing it with my kitchen shears. I went the next day and bought some and life has been easier by far.
