If you have leftover hamburger buns from your tailgate or BBQ, you NEED to make this mouthwatering Hamburger Bun Texas Toast!
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
You will want to keep this recipe when you have excess hamburger buns that you don’t want to waste. When I was a high school student in the late 90s, our pasta was always served with hamburger bun garlic bread, and we thought it was the greatest ever!
This recipe works best with Brioche buns; however, any hamburger bun you have at home will work. This is the easiest side dish you can make with a salad, bowl of soup, or pasta.
What is Texas Toast?
Texas Toast is made using thick cuts of bread that is usually brushed with butter, sometimes seasoned with garlic or herbs, and then toasted or grilled until it’s golden and crispy on the outside while remaining soft on the inside. Texas Toast is commonly served as a side dish with meals like barbecue, pasta, or breakfast dishes.
Ingredients Needed
4-5 Brioche Hamburger Buns cut in half
Four tablespoons of butter, softened
Four tablespoons of olive oil
One tablespoon of minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon salt
chopped parsley
Parmesan Cheese ( optional)
More optional ingredients: With this recipe, the variations are endless! You can add a sprinkle of Italian seasoning, garlic powder, garlic salt, basil, oregano, fresh garlic, or mayo to your garlic spread if you like. You can also dip your Texas toast in tomato sauce.
Why use butter AND Olive Oil?
One thing my family has always done a little bit differently when it comes to garlic bread is using butter AND olive oil. There are two main reasons why this is a great idea!!
1. Flavor: Butter and Olive oil have two completely different flavors that complement each other and work well together when creating a base for garlic.
2. Texture: Butter and Olive oil have different melting points, which work together to create texture for your garlic bread. Butter melts into the bread to make the inside soft, while the olive oil helps create a crust outside.
Equipment
Baking sheet lined with parchment paper
small bowl for mixing the garlic butter
Pastry brush
Instructions
1. Prepare Garlic Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, olive oil, minced garlic parsley, and salt until well combined.
2. Using a pastry brush, spread a generous amount of the garlic butter mixture on each cut side of the brioche hamburger bun halves.
3. Add parmesan cheese if using.
4. Place buns on a baking sheet and cut side up.
5. Toast hamburger buns: Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes or until the buns are golden brown and the edges are crispy. If you want extra crispy edges, switch the oven to the broiler setting for the last 1-2 minutes. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
6. Serve
