This berry caprese salad is a family-friendly recipe and will be the perfect addition to your Fourth of July or Memorial Day spread!
If you are looking for the perfect side dish or a 4th of July salad, look no further than this easy caprese salad with fresh berries, fresh mozzarella, basil, and an easy blueberry balsamic sauce. I replaced the traditional tomatoes in this recipe with fresh berries for a perfect sweet treat! This is an easy recipe to throw together that kids will love. It is healthy, refreshing, and gluten-free!
Ingredients needed
Thinly sliced strawberries- Thinly sliced strawberries work best because they will layer well with the mozzarella cheese and soak up all the additional flavors.
Fresh blueberries will add a pop of sweetness and tartness, making your plate look patriotic.
Fresh Mozzarella cheese- you can use slices or mozzarella pearls. Fresh Mozzarella will create your creamy base, holding all of the other flavors together.
Fresh Basil Leaves – Fresh basil will add freshness and remind you of a classic Caprese salad.
Pinch of salt – Sea salt will enhance the flavor and add a bit of texture to the salad.
Cracked pepper- Will enhance the flavor of the basil.
Blueberry Balsamic Glaze
Optional ingredients: Any red or blue berries can easily be added to this salad. Raspberries, blackberries, or even cherries would be perfect with this salad. You can also choose to add honey or maple syrup to your blueberry balsamic glaze.
Recipe Note: If you don’t have balsamic glaze, you can substitute it with a mixture of preserves and balsamic vinegar. You can also omit the blueberry preserves if you don’t have them.
Storage Instructions
Storing before serving: You can store the dressed salad in the fridge for up to four hours before serving. Make sure you cover the salad tightly with plastic wrap. You may want to choose to drizzle the olive oil and balsamic vinegar glaze just before serving to ensure freshness.
You can store the leftovers in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 24 hours. You can place a paper towel on top of the salad to soak up excess moisture. The basil will likely wilt if you store it any longer.
Equipment Needed
A large bowl or plate for assembling your salad
Whisk and a small bowl for creating the blueberry balsamic dressing
