Sourdough French Toast Bake

by Kristen

The natural tanginess from sourdough bread mixed with cinnamon and sugar makes for the best French toast bake recipe!

Sourdough is my favorite bread. I love its savoriness and chewy texture. If you are looking for a new breakfast casserole to make, you are in the right place! I will show you how to turn a beautiful sourdough loaf into the most delicious French toast casserole recipe!

Why is sourdough bread perfect for French toast?

Texture

Sourdough has a chewy texture and a crispy crust that holds up when soaked in an egg mixture. The sturdy crust contrasts the soft interior, giving French toast a pleasant texture variation.

Flavor

The tangy, slightly sour flavor of sourdough adds depth and complexity to French toast, complementing the sweetness of the egg mixture and any additional toppings like syrup or fruit.

Ingredients Needed:

One loaf of sourdough bread, cut into cubesYou can use homemade sourdough bread if you like, but I just picked up a loaf from the store.  Try to get an unsliced loaf, but a sliced loaf will work with this recipe, too!
