Last December, I posted my DIY tortilla chips with a hint of lime. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me at the time to make any other flavors. We had a bunch of leftover corn tortillas laying around from the weekend’s enchiladas, and I decided to try ranch flavored.
If you head over to Pinterest, and type in “Ranch Dressing Mix Recipe” in the search bar. You will find a ton of awesome ones. When I came up with this idea, my original plan was to make a homemade one. It was much less expensive for me to just buy a ranch packet from the store. I would have had to buy 4 different spices just to make one of these. I am sure the homemade ones taste better though.
Making your own tortilla chips is super easy. You just cut corn tortillas into “chip like” shapes. You can even use a cookie cutter to make different shapes if you like.
I didn’t want my ranch chips to be overly seasoned. I just sprinkled a little ranch on each chip. When Greg tasted them, he wanted more ranch flavor. Season yours the way you want.
Ranch Tortilla Chips ( makes 16 chips)
Ingredients
4 corn tortillas
1 tablespoon of oil ( olive or canola would work best)
1 packet of ranch dressing mix ( you wont use it all, save the rest for later)
Method
Cut the corn tortillas into chip sized triangles. arrange on a baking sheet. brush a small amount of oil onto each chip with a pastry brush. Season the chips with as much ranch seasoning mix you would prefer. Bake them in the oven at 350 for 10-15 minutes. After they have been in the oven for 10 minutes. STAY CLOSE to the oven and check on them frequently. They can go from underdone to too done quickly.
One thing I really like about making these DIY tortilla chips, is that you don’t have a bag of junky chips staring you in the face after you have had some. This is a great way to control portion size, when you want something salty. I mean ranchy. 🙂
My brother and I ( from Chicago) both married Iowans. We all know how much they love their Ranch. Just ask my Sister-in-law, Celia.

Brilliant recipe and taste. I really tastes such a solution and do it often. Theoretically, these chips can fry or bake – I always choose baked, I think they are then tastier and healthier.
Still, I found a different solution with poppy seeds, nuts and other additives http://www.open-youweb.com/how-to-make-homemade-tortilla-chips/ and can anyone advise what else can you say to them?

Yum! I’m on board with these chips, obviously – the Iowa connection 🙂
There is no way I can resist a bowl of these if they were sitting in front of me. The tortilla chips look so good. I like how easy it is to make these chips.
