Lucky Charms Chocolate Covered Pretzels

by Kristen

Chocolate-covered pretzels are a great treat to make with kids!  I sometimes bake with my kids, but chocolate-covered pretzels are something they can make without too much help from adults.  I like to let them dip the chocolate-covered pretzels on top of parchment paper for easy cleanup.   These Lucky Charms Chocolate-covered pretzels are a festive way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!  This snack is so easy, and all you need is three ingredients.

My family celebrates a few different holidays with Lucky Charms.

  • We like to surprise the kids with a box of marshmallow cereal on their birthdays.
  • Santa usually brings each child in our family a box of sugar cereal each year.  Santa started this tradition because he knows we try to be minimalists about gifts.
  • We made these Lucky Charms chocolate-covered pretzels during a snow day last week.  I thought it was a cute idea for St. Patrick Day- even though it’s February now.

Lucky Charms are gluten-free, so if you use gluten-free pretzels, this is a great treat for your gluten-free friends!

Chocolate covered pretzels is a dessert I love making with my kids.  It’s quick, easy, and the kids can do most of it themselves.  All you need to do is melt chocolate in the microwave and let them dip their pretzels, and decorate.

How do you Melt Chocolate in the Microwave?

Melting chocolate in the microwave is easy if you take your time.  I prefer to use the chocolate discs you can buy specifically for chocolate dipping.  I put the chocolate discs in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave the chocolate in 30-second increments, stirring the chocolate in between each increment.  I will usually need three 30 second increments when I am melting chocolate in individual bowls for my three kids.   Often the chocolate doesn’t look like it’s melted when it comes out of the microwave, even though it really is. That is why it is so important to stir in between each time.  If your chocolate melts but is too thick to work with, try adding a little coconut oil or shortening it.  However, if you use candy melts, you shouldn’t need coconut oil or shortening.

This recipe is super easy.  All you need is:

Pretzels- you can use any shape you like, but I think the mini pretzel twists work best.

Chocolate Candy Melts-Milk chocolate, white or dark chocolate will be delicious!

Lucky Charms– You can also look for the lucky charms marshmallows, which are sometimes sold independently.

I also like to line each kid’s place at the table with parchment paper.  It makes clean up so much easier. Plus, it gives the pretzels a place to dry.

Dip each pretzel into the bowl and cover it with chocolate.  I usually dip each pretzel about 3/4 of the way in.   Place each pretzel onto parchment or wax paper and add some lucky charms on top to make them look festive.  You will be impressed to see just how many lucky charms marshmallows your kids will be able to fit on each pretzel! Let the pretzels sit until they are cooled and the chocolate has hardened.

Repeat this process until you have made the desired amount of chocolate-covered pretzels.

  • 36 mini pretzels
  • 1 cup chocolate candy melts
  • 2 cups Lucky Charms with a generous amount of marshmallows.

Place the chocolate into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 3- 30 second increments, stirring the chocolate in between each go around in the microwave.

  1. Once the chocolate is melted, dip each pretzel into the bowl and place each pretzel onto parchment paper or wax paper.

  2. Decorate each pretzel with lucky charms before the chocolate has melted.

  3. Repeat the process until you have the desired amount of pretzels.
