Cherry Dessert Salsa

by Kristen

Fresh cherries, berries, and kiwi come together in this easy Cherry Dessert Salsa that’s perfect with homemade cinnamon sugar tortilla chips.

This Cherry Dessert Salsa made my summer.

It’s colorful, ridiculously easy, and somehow feels just a little fancier than a regular fruit salad. The fresh cherries are the star, while strawberries, blueberries, and kiwi pull everything together into a sweet, juicy dessert that’s made for scooping with cinnamon sugar tortilla chips or pita chips.

It’s one of those recipes that looks like you spent way more time on it than you actually did. My favorite kind.  I got this idea because a friend brought a strawberry version to book club.

Whether you’re headed to a cookout, need something fun for a baby shower, or simply have an overflowing bag of cherries sitting on your counter, this recipe is guaranteed to disappear fast.

Ingredients

Fresh sweet cherries, pitted and chopped

Strawberries

Blueberries

Kiwi

Cherry preserves

Fresh lime juice (optional)

For serving:

Cinnamon sugar tortilla chips, cinnamon sugar pita chips,  graham crackers, or butter cookies.

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry all of the fruit.
  2. Pit and chop the cherries into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Dice the strawberries and kiwi.
  4. Add the cherries, strawberries, blueberries, and kiwi to a large mixing bowl.
  5. Fold in the cherry preserves until all of the fruit is lightly coated.
  6. If you’d like a little brightness, stir in a squeeze of fresh lime juice.
  7. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving for the best flavor.
  8. Serve with cinnamon sugar tortilla chips or your favorite cookies.

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Give the salsa a quick stir before serving since the fruit will naturally release some juice as it sits.

Cherry Fruit Salsa

Fresh cherries, berries, and kiwi come together in this easy Cherry Dessert Salsa that's perfect with homemade cinnamon sugar tortilla chips.

Servings 6

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh sweet cherries, pitted and chopped
  • 1 cup strawberries, chopped
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 2 kiwi, peeled and chopped
  • 1/4 cup cherry preserves

Instructions

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry all of the fruit.

  2. Pit the cherries and chop them into bite-sized pieces.

  3. Dice the strawberries and kiwi into pieces similar in size to the cherries.

  4. Add the cherries, strawberries, blueberries, and kiwi to a large mixing bowl.

  5. Add the cherry preserves and gently fold everything together until the fruit is lightly coated. You want the preserves to cling to the fruit without smashing the berries.

  6. Stir in the lime juice, if using, for a little brightness.

  7. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to blend.

  8. Serve chilled with cinnamon sugar tortilla chips or your favorite cookies.

Can I make Cherry Dessert Salsa ahead of time?

Yes! In fact, it’s even better after chilling for about 30 minutes. I wouldn’t make it more than a day ahead, though, because the fruit will continue to soften.

Can I use frozen cherries?

Fresh cherries give the best texture, but thawed frozen cherries will work if they’re well drained.

What cherries are best?

Sweet Bing cherries or Rainier cherries are both excellent choices.

Can I make it with less sugar?

Absolutely. The only sweetness comes from the cherry preserves, so simply use less if you’d like a fresher fruit-forward flavor.

If you’re looking for an easy dessert that feels a little special without requiring much effort, this cherry fruit salsa is it. Sweet, juicy cherries steal the spotlight, while the colorful fruit makes it look like you spent way more time on it than you actually did. There’s no baking involved; it’s easy to make ahead for parties or potlucks, and it disappears fast at summer BBQs, holiday brunches, and family gatherings. Serve it with cinnamon sugar tortilla chips, graham crackers, vanilla wafers, or slices of pound cake, and watch everyone come back for seconds.
