Next time you’re at the store, pick up a package of freeze-dried apples to make these delicious apple cinnamon rice krispie treats! These have the perfect taste of apple cinnamon and are the perfect treat to make this fall!
Rice Krispie treats are the easiest dessert recipe! One thing I love about them is that no baking is involved, and you can have a crowd-pleasing dessert in just a few minutes!
Where do you buy freeze-dried apples?
You can find freeze-dried apples in most grocery stores. Costco, Aldi, and Walmart all have their own versions. You can also find them on Amazon.
Ingredients Needed
- Six cups of Rice Krispies cereal
- One bag (10 oz) mini marshmallows
- Four tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1½ cups freeze-dried apples, roughly chopped- please ensure these are freeze-dried apples and not just dried apples; the texture will be off if you use plain dried apples.
- 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- A pinch of salt
Optional Ingredients: You can add spices, such as pumpkin pie mix, nutmeg, or ground cloves. You can play around with the spices to get the flavor you like. You can add caramel sauce to the top of these if you desire, but I think they are sweet enough already.
Equipment Needed
9x 13 baking dish
mixing bowl
large saucepan
nonstick cooking spray
Instructions
1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper to make removing the treats easy.
2. Melt the Butter and Marshmallows: In a large pot over the stove, melt the butter over low heat. Add the mini marshmallows and vanilla extract to the melted butter and stir until completely smooth.
3. In a separate bowl, mix Rice Krispies cereal, cinnamon, salt, and crushed freeze-dried apple crumbs. Make sure all of the cereal is coated in cinnamon.
4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the Rice Krispies cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture. Stir until the cereal is evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture.
5. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Use a rubber spatula to press it into an even layer. Be careful not to push too hard, as this will make the treats too dense.
6. Allow the treats to cool at room temperature until they are set, about an hour. For quicker settings, you can place the pan in the refrigerator for about 20-30 minutes.
Tips:
- For easier cutting, lightly grease your knife with butter or cooking spray.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for three days. You can also extend the life of these rice krispie treats by storing them in the fridge or freezer. If you freeze them, you will want to wrap them individually and store them in an airtight container.
Can I make this recipe in an 8×8 Pan?
Yes! You will want to adjust the measurements in the ingredients.
- 3 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- Two tablespoons butter
- 4 cups mini marshmallows
- 1/2 cup of freeze-dried apples
- One teaspoon of vanilla extract
- One teaspoon of cinnamon
