Sweet Baked Beans Chili

If you have a can of baked beans, try adding them to your chili! The chili beans’ spicy flavor will be balanced by the baked beans’ sweet, smoky kick. This combination creates a flavorful chili with a mix of heat and sweetness.

I have included both slow cooker directions and Instant Pot directions for you.  Total time will depend on if you choose to use your slow cooker or Instant Pot

Prep time: 15 minutes

If you have a can of baked beans from your summer barbecue in your pantry, use it to make this delicious, sweet chili recipe!  You will love the flavor and the texture in this easy chili recipe, and your family will love the low heat paired with sweet and smokey baked beans!

Sweet Baked Beans Chili

Ingredients needed 
1 pound ground beef
1 15-ounce can of chili flavored kidney beans
1 15 ounce can black beans, drained
1 28 ounces can your favorite baked beans- try using a variety with brown sugar
1 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes or plain tomato sauce.
1 cup tomato juice
1/3 cup chopped green onions
1/2 cup chopped celery
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon cumin
1 tablespoon oregano
1 tablespoon garlic powder
Optional Ingredients: you can add more chopped vegetables to this baked bean chili recipe.  You can also choose to add more spices such as paprika, or more chili seasoning.
Topping ideas: bell pepper, cheese, bacon crumble, sour cream, green onions, tortilla chips, corn chips, crackers

Instructions

Instant Pot  Instructions

  1. Set your pressure cooker to the saute setting.  Brown the ground beef. Drain and put the meat back into your pressure cooker’s pot.

  2. Add the rest of the ingredients to the pot in no particular order.  And stir.

  3. Close the lid to your pressure cooker and cook on high pressure for 20 minutes.

  4. let NPR for 10

  5. Open up your pot.  If your chili is as not as thick as you would like, saute for 5-0 additional minutes.

Serve

Slow Cooker Instructions

Brown ground beef and drain excess grease.

    • Add the ground beef into your slow cooker.  Add remaining ingredients in no particular order.

    • Cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 6 hours.

    • Add garnishes and eat!

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 15 ounce can black beans, drained
  • 1 28 ounces can your favorite baked beans
  • 1 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup tomato juice
  • 1/3 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder

  • green onions
  • sour cream
