No Bake Puppy Chow Bars

Families across the midwest have been making  "puppy chow" in their kitchens since the 1960s. It also goes by Muddy Buddies, Raindeer Chow, Monkey Munch, Chow, or Doggy Bag. Puppy Chow is a snack where you mix Chex cereal with melted chocolate and peanut butter, then coat it in powdered sugar.   I have made a no-bake, no-melting chocolate version of puppy chow squares that your family will love!

Ingredients

  • Two cups of crushed Chocolate Chex measure out the Chex after they have been crushed
  • One cup of creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup Melted butter, one stick
  • 3/4 cup Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare ingredients—Crush Chocolate Chex by placing them in the freezer bag and using a rolling pin to crush them. Melt butter by microwaving it in 30-second increments—line the pan with parchment paper.

  2. In a mixing bowl, mix crushed Chocolate Chex, confectioners sugar, melted butter, chocolate chips,  and peanut butter until well blended.

  3. Place the mixture into a lined 8x8 pan.   Chill for 1 hour before cutting into squares.

  4. Keep these in the fridge until it is time to serve them. Serve.
