Non-Bread Sandwich ideas

by Kristen

There are so many delicious ways to enjoy a sandwich for lunch without all the bread!  I know so many people who avoid bread for a variety of reasons.  I have many friends who might be Whole 30, low carb or avoid bread because they’re gluten-free.  There are several benefits to having a nonbread sandwich.  Not only is it a lighter way to enjoy a sandwich, but you’re also frequently getting an extra serving of vegetables! Vegetables tend to have fewer calories than bread.  Here are some of my favorite bread-less sandwich ideas!

This post was originally posted in 2014.  I updated this  in 2021

Lettuce Wraps

You can make lettuce wraps out of a variety of ingredients.  This recipe for teriyaki pork lettuce wraps is delicious, and I promise you won’t miss the bread!  You can also make this with turkey!  I highly recommend you add sweet carrot on top!

Cucumber Subs

Who knew that you could use a cucumber slice in place of bread in a sub sandwich!  Do you peel the skin off a cucumber?  This sandwich would also taste great with bacon.

Bell Pepper Sandwich

Did you know you can build a sandwich on top of a bell pepper slice?  You can also use a bell pepper slice in the place of hamburger buns. You can use salami, ham or turkey too!

Tuna Melt on an Apple Slice

This tuna melt on an apple slice is a warm low-carb sandwich.  Just mix up tuna salad with mayo or yogurt, place a piece of cheese on top and bake it in the oven until the cheese has melted.

Stuffed Avocado

You can stuff avocado with various meats with the flavors you prefer.  Egg salad also tastes great in an avocado.

Tuna Salad Celery Logs

Did you have ants on a log when you were a kid?  You can fill celery logs with various sandwich fillings and cheese slices or hummus.

Chicken Taco Cabbage Cups

Cabbage is super crunchy and has a ton of vitamins!  You can add your favorite delt meat to a cabbage cup!  This is a great alternative to a bread sandwich recipe!

Hard-Boiled Egg Sandwich

There is so much richness in this hard boiled egg sandwich, this will leave you feeling full until dinner! Just use your favorite deli meat.  Adding your favorite herbs will help enhance the flavor!

Bell Pepper Tacos

Pizza Stuffed Tomatoes

All you need is a medium sized tomato and your favorite pizza toppings!  This also works well with a zucchini or an eggplant!  Just line a baking sheet with parchment paper, stuff your tomato full of pizza toppings and bake!

Mini Cucumber Sandwich Bites

an engish cucumber makes for a great adult lunchable!  I also like eating sandwich fixings with lettuce leaves!

Low Carb Hawaiian Pizza Bites

Burger Wrapped in Lettuce

Cheese Wrap Sandwich

Whats your favorite way to eat a sandwich without bread? sweet potato? cauliflower bread? plantains?  I would love to hear what you do!  Please tag me on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, or Twitter if you make any of these!  I would love to hear how they turn out!

I have tried multiple times to get the recipe for the BLT boats and the pic keeps taking me to the Zucchini pizza cups. How can I get the recipe?

I love the easy and quick simple foods you posted. I will definitely be trying the cucumber sub that you had posted along with all the other lunch ideas. I know my kids will love those food items that you had posted like the mini pizza ideas, and the soup ideas. I got tired of making the same old food for them for lunches and dinners. Thank you so much for your dedication to all people that read your posts on pintrest or anywhere else you post your ideas for alternative food recipes. Especially when it ties in with the paleo diet otherwise known as the caveman diet.

Sincerely,
Lisa
