Salted Brown Butter Crinkle Cookies

Brown Butter ( Buerre Noisette) is a classic French staple in the kitchen.  Brown Butter is melted butter with accelerated flavor, can be made in less than 10 minutes, and has a nutty and bold flavor. These cookies also have brown sugar and vanilla, and crispy sea salt.  This cookie will quickly become one of your favorite cookie recipes.  These cookies are super wrinkled and crisp on the outside but will still melt in your mouth when you eat them.

How to Brown Butter 

  1. You will want to brown butter in a medium saucepan over low heat.
  2. Cut the butter into even slices.  You want your butter to cook evenly.
  3. Stir continuously for 10 minutes.  Brown butter is melted butter with an accelerated flavor.  Melt butter until the butter sizzles and foams.  Once you see the butter foam, It will turn into the most incredible flavored ingredient.

What are the brown specs in Brown Butter?

The brown specs in brown butter are toasted milk solids.  They’re most of the flavor in brown butter comes from, so make sure you scrape them out of the pan!

Ingredients 

1 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour

One teaspoon of baking powder

1 cup of brown sugar

Two eggs

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

1/2 cup or one stick butter

Sea Salt

1/2 cup Powdered Sugar

What makes a crinkle cookie crinkly?

When you bake the cookies coated in powdered sugar, the sugar will absorb moisture and dry out the outside of the cookie, causing it to crack.  When you use the cookie scoop to create balls using this cookie dough, you will notice that the consistency of the dough is almost crumbly.  You want it that way!

The Instructions for these cookie cookies are easy, but it is essential to be precise. 

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  2. Make your brown butter.  In a saucepan over low heat, cook one stick of salted butter on low until it gets foamy- about 5 minutes. Make sure to scrape the milk solids from the pan to use in your cookies.  Let brown butter cool.
  3. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and brown sugar in a mixing bowl.
  4. Whisk together vanilla extract and eggs.  Add to the dough. And mix.
  5. Add brown butter last. Mix to form your dough.
  6. Cover your dough with plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  7. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Use a cookie scoop to form 1-2 inch balls.
  9. Roll each ball in powdered sugar and arrange it on the cookie sheet a few inches apart.
  10. Top each cookie with large crystal sea salt.
  11. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes.
  12. Make sure to let the cookies cool for at least 5 minutes before placing them on a wire rack to cool.
  13. Serve.
