Chili-Maple Sticky Chicken Drumsticks

Guys.  I have been attempting to make sticky chicken drumsticks in my Instant Pot for months.  Although most of my attempts tasted great, they were not turning out sticky. They were turning out in a somewhat watery sauce.  So anyway, after many multiple attempts at making sticky chicken drumsticks in my Instant Pot, I now myself an expert on this process 🙂

Do you cook the drumsticks at the bottom of the Instant Pot or on the trivet? 

There are two ways you can successfully make chicken drumsticks in your Instant Pot.   You can cook the drumsticks at the bottom of your Instant Pot, directly in your sauce, or you can cook them on the trivet above the sauce.   I think it is better to cook them in the sauce, so your chicken can be as flavorful as possible.

What is the secret to making your drumsticks sticky?

When folks say that an Instant Pot is a “one-pot” meal, I think that is true, but that people also need to know that multiple settings on your Instant Pot will be used within that cooking process.   I almost always use the saute setting after I cook meat, chili, or sloppy joes so that I can thicken the sauce afterward.  I did this here too.   After I pressure cooked the chicken, I removed them from the pot and added cornstarch to the pan and sauteed it to make the sauce sticky.

This recipe is super easy, and I was afraid at first that I didn’t make enough food because my children were practically double fisting these drumsticks like Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Sourcerer Stone.

Not only are these delicious, but this recipe only requires four ingredients and cooks in 20 minutes.  I served these over rice, but you can serve them with any side dish that fits your fancy.

What you need to make Chili-Maple Sticky Chicken Drumsticks

And Instant Pot 

Chicken Drumsticks

Chili Sauce

Maple Syrup

Cornstarch 

1 cup of water.

And that is it!

Ingredients

  • 1.5-2 pounds chicken drumsticks
  • 1 12 ounce bottle of chili sauce
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Pour chili sauce and maple syrup on the bottom of your Instant Pot and whisk together.

  2. Add the chicken drumsticks over the sauce.

  3. Pour 1 cup of water over the drumsticks.

  4. Cook on high pressure for 20 minutes.

  5. You can vent immediately after the cooking process ends.

  6. Remove the cooked chicken drumsticks from the pot and set aside.

  7. Unplug and replug your Instant Pot. Set your Instant Pot to saute.

  8. Remove about 1/2 sauce from the pot and whisk in the cornstarch. Add that sauce back into the pot and saute the sauce until it is " sticky"

  9. Pour the "sticky" sauce over the chicken drumsticks and serve.
