Spicy chocolate pepita granola bars


I am going to share with you a mom’s secret that I realized this summer.  A secret that I probably should have understood a while ago.   This summer, I started feeding my kids’ granola bars when we’re about to head out for outdoor adventures.  It solves so much.  You don’t understand.  Or if you have small kids, you might get it.

I have one child who will reach the point of losing it if he does not have food and another child who often forgets to eat until he is just melting down.   Now I have an important rule.  No hikes or trips to the park until you eat your granola bar.  Period.

They are starting to understand how much better they feel when they have a snack before being active with friends, and I am too.   This summer, I started making homemade granola bars for us to enjoy, and it has been a blast experimenting with flavors.

I created these spicy chocolate pepita granola bars for me because, well, I like to have a snack before I head to the park to chase my three boys.  And I also love to have a little afternoon pick-me-up too!


Honest® Tea is such a refreshing afternoon pick-me-up.  Can I tell you something personal about being an influencer?  I love getting to try new products because sometimes, once in a while, I discover something that I genuinely enjoy.  Honest Tea’s new Moroccan Mint Green Tea is officially my new favorite thing!  The mint is truly refreshing and Just a Tad Sweet.

I picked up these three new flavors at Kroger this past week.  I found them in the beverage department along with other bottled iced tea.


I love these new glass bottles.  I have been trying to take measures to use less plastic lately.  I have started using shampoo bars, I found paper sandwich bags for my kid’s lunches, and now I can get my favorite iced teas in glass bottles!


This Honest Tea Morrocan Mint Tea tasted just fantastic with these granola bars.  Making granola bars is very easy.  I like to throw the granola bars together after my kids go to bed and let them set in the fridge overnight.   I always line my pans with parchment paper; it keeps the granola bars from sticking.

Spicy pepita chocolate granola bars

Servings 12 granola bars


  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup pepitas
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds
  • 1 teaspoon wheat germ


  1. In a bowl, whisk peanut butter, coconut oil, and honey together. 

  2. In a second bowl, mix oats, pepitas, cayenne pepper, chocolate chips, chia seeds and wheat germ. 

  3. Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients 

  4. Line a 13X9 pan with parchment paper and pour the granola mixture into the pan. 

  5. Cover the pan and place the granola in the fridge.  Cool for 2-3 hours

  6. Once the granola is cooled and set, cut the granola bars.  Eat or store in the fridge. 

I absolutely hope that you enjoy these granola bars as much as I did!  I have found that it is important to fill my body with foods that last longer!  Plus, I love this nourishing smooth tasting tea.   Try all three of the new flavors available.
