One thing I love about my work, writing about food, is discovering new food products and ways to use them. I actually learn a lot about how to cook for my family in the process. Which brings me to Mazola® Corn Oil. A recent study has found that adding Mazola® Corn Oil to one’s diet resulted in lower cholesterol levels than Coconut Oil. A previous study found that corn oil can also help lower cholesterol more than extra virgin olive oil. To learn more about the study, see Mazola.com

We have had some weather surprises these past few weeks. During this time of year, my mind is really focused on Spring, and the warm weather ahead. Last weekend, my husband, kids and I were surprised when we were driving home from a morning at the gym when we saw large snowflakes falling from the sky.

Even though I have mixed feelings about snowfalls this time of year, the look on my kids’ faces was that of pure delight. My husband and I decided that we would go home and make ourselves an extravagant lunch while the kids played in the snow outside. I don’t often think of Cuban sandwiches as something I would usually make in the winter, but actually, the salty ham, melty cheese and sweet taste of pickles were comforting and perfect.

I used Mazola® Corn Oil in two different ways in this recipe. I drizzled a little of it on the sheet pan when I cooked the contents of this sandwich. I also spread a little bit of it on the bread, because I grilled these sandwiches in my stove top griddle before eating them. In addition to choosing to use Mazola® Corn Oil in this recipe, I also swapped out regular sandwich bread with sourdough bread. Sourdough bread had a much lower glycemic index than regular white bread. Also, Instead of adding mayonnaise to this sandwich, I opted for calorie-free pickles and mustard.

Mazola® Corn Oil is America’s #1 Selling Heart Healthy Cooking Oil. One thing I really like about it is that it has a smoke point higher than other cooking oils. I really hate it, when it seems as though cooking oil might start to burn, so corn oil is a great choice when it comes to cooking in high heat. I also love that Mazola® Corn Oil has a neutral taste that won’t negatively impact the taste of ingredients, so it lets the natural flavor of your food stand out.

Part of my job, writing about food is paying attention to food trends that are out there. And let me tell you, people have different opinions on what the best cooking oil is. But actually, a clinical study showed Mazola Corn Oil reduces cholesterol 2x more than extra virgin olive oil. To learn more about this claim, see Mazola.com.

This roasted pork was perfect. I loved all the flavors that I drizzled on the pork before baking it. Orange juice, lime juice, cumin, and coriander made this pork flavorful and zesty. I drizzled some Mazola® Corn Oil on top of the pork and the onions as well. Mazola® cooking oil is made of 100% pure oil with no additives, so the great flavor of your food comes through. And these flavors were spot on! This oil is such a good choice because All Mazola® oils are cholesterol free and have become a healthful tradition in America.
