When I was in high school, a LONG time ago. ( graduated in 01′) My friends and I would hang out at this store that sold bulk foods.  It had a little eating area too.  My friend Brian used to pick out yogurt covered pretzels.  Like, he would by 5 at a time.  Pay for them, eat them. and then decide he wanted more.  So then he would buy like 3 more.  All the cool things we did for fun as teenagers.

I have tried to make homemade yogurt covered pretzels a bunch of different times over the years, and many of my attempts have failed miserably.    Yes, chocolate covered pretzels are also good.  But Yogurt covered pretzels have that special tangy taste to them.

My oldest son, who is in Kindergarten attends a private school, where fundraising is necessary.  I have started becoming very loyal to brands who participate in the Box Tops for Education program.  It is important to me to do my part to help raise money for the school.  Over the last year, I have actually become that mom who sends ” sandwich bags” filled with Box Tops for Education to school with my son.    When after I picked up a Yoplait® Original Fridge Pack at Walmart, I decided once and for all I would finally get this yogurt covered pretzel recipe down.

Okay back to these Yogurt covered pretzels.  I used both flavors from the Yoplait® Original Fridge Pack, strawberry and peach in my recipe.  I wouldn’t use both flavors together, but use one flavor at a time.  What you see in the photos above are made with strawberry yogurt.   There are two important things that need to happen in order for these yogurt covered pretzels to turn out.

  1.  Once they dry, store them in the freezer
  2. Mix the Yoplait® yogurt with melted yogurt chips.
  3. Don’t remove any of the fruit pieces from the yogurt.  I think they taste better this way.

Yogurt Covered Pretzels

1 package of Yoplait® Yogurt, from the Yoplait® Original Fridge Pack, your flavor of choice

2 cups of yogurt chips.  You can use white chocolate chips if you can’t find yogurt chips

40-50 pretzels

sprinkles- optional

Method:  Place the yogurt chips in a microwave-safe bowl and cook in the microwave for 2-3 increments, stirring the yogurt chips each time.  Once the yogurt chips have melted, add the yogurt and stir in.  Cook the mixture in the microwave for 30 more seconds and stir again.   Dip the pretzels and add the sprinkles before the yogurt dries.  Store in the freezer, this will keep these from getting soggy.

These yogurt covered pretzels were a hit with my kiddos!  They were really impressed with all the sprinkles on these!  Plus, I loved them too for a sweet treat!
