During Lent each year, I allow myself to purchase frozen fried shrimp or seafood a few times to make something different for my family.   These Po Boy Sandwich Rice Bowls are easy to prep and taste flavorful!  I encourage you to get creative with the veggie add-ins to your rice bowl!

Where did the Po Boy Sandwich originate?

The po’boy sandwich originated in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, in the late 19th century. It gained popularity as an affordable and satisfying meal option during the Great Depression. Traditionally, it consists of French bread filled with various types of meat, such as roast beef or fried seafood, along with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and mayonnaise.

Remoulade sauce is a staple in New Orleans and pairs well with many Creole and Cajun dishes.

6 Butterfly shrimp per bowl

3/4 cup of cooked rice- per bowl

1 cup of shredded cabbage- per bowl

2-3 tablespoons of Remoulade sauce- per bowl

Remoulade Sauce

Two tablespoons of mayonnaise

Two tablespoons of horseradish sauce

One tablespoon ketchup

1/2 teaspoon of paprika

1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder

hot sauce and cayenne pepper is optional

Optional ingredients- onions, lettuce, and tomatoes would also taste delicious in these shrimp po’boy bowls.  You can also add meat or shellfish, such as crawfish, to your bowls.

You can use fresh shrimp instead of the packaged shrimp that I used. You can steam the shrimp with creole seasonings or try making a cornmeal topping and frying it.

This looks so good! Will have to try it on my Cajun Hubby. I think I would have to add Sriracha to the remoulade for added heat.
