Healthy Onion Dip

Lately, I have been eating A LOT of Greek Yogurt.  I will admit, that I was not convinced I would like Greek Yogurt for a while.  But, it’s growing on me.   I have been using it in recipes that call for mayo or sour cream.  Most of these substitutions have turned out satisfactory.

But, do I dare use Greek yogurt as the main component in my favorite dip?  

” I will most certainly be adding some mayo to this”  I figured as I made a caramelized onion dip with ONLY Greek Yogurt!

“It will at least need a little sour cream”.

NOPE!

Greek Yogurt was all it took.  and it was so, so good!  AND HEALTHY?  What’s so bad about a little bowl of yogurt with some onion mixed in? Nothing!

I didn’t use all of those caramelized onions in my dip.  I just happened to be caramelizing onions for another recipe when I decided to give this a whirl.

Greek Yogurt-Caramelized Onion Dip  ( Serves 1-2) 

1/4 cup of caramelized onions

1 cup of Greek Yogurt 

Sea Salt or Pepper ( optional) 

In your food processor or blender,  Blend caramelized onions with Greek Yogurt.  Add salt or pepper if desired.

For a More intense taste :  Leave in your fridge overnight before eating.

My husband could Hardly believe that this dip was just Greek Yogurt.

* Disclaimer.  I did caramelize the onions in olive oil. SO. I guess there is a little olive oil in this too.

  3. I do this a lot….so much better for you…..and you have to have the olive oil…..caramelized onions are the best. I use goat milk yogurt…..in another recipe you add onion powder. That is why I love homemade; you can make it your own. Package stuff can be too much for your body.
