DIY Rotisserie Chicken

chicken1

This DIY Rotisserie chicken tastes similar  to a chicken you would pick up from the grocery store on a busy night.  Also,   It can be prepped and placed in a slow cooker in less time than it would take you to buy a chicken at the store.  You get a bigger chicken that tastes even better!

Don’t know what to make for dinner?  Is it going to be a pizza night? Peanut butter and jelly?  Or will you run into your local grocery store and pick up one of those AMAZING smelling rotisserie chickens?  Picking up a Rotisserie chicken is a better alternative to pizza or fast food.  But Rotisserie chickens are usually small and overpriced. ( I usually at least make some homemade chicken broth with ours…… but still)  Last winter, my mother in law was visiting, and she noticed a particular spice in my  cabinet.

Greek seasoning.  I have always had this seasoning on hand, mostly because my mom always had this spice on hand.

But anyhow.  My mother in law informed me that if I wanted to make a chicken taste like those yummy Rotisserie chickens from the grocery store, just rub this spice all over a chicken. I have had this dinner idea in the back of my mind for a while, so I was happy when I finally decided to try it.  chicken4  Last week, whole chickens were on sale.  Even though I am used to cooking with chicken breasts, I decided I wanted to try this out.  I got a very large chicken for a great price!

DIY Rotisserie Chicken ( Slow Cooker Recipe)

Ingredients  1 chicken 2 tablespoons of olive oil  4 tablespoons of Greek Seasoning

1) Place Tin foil balls at the bottom of your slow cooker.   ( so the chicken isn’t just cooking in its own juices)

2) Rinse your chicken ( optional)  and remove giblets  ( OMG removing the giblets is the scariest part!)

3) Rub Olive Oil and Greek Seasoning all over chicken 4) Place in slow cooker on high for 5 hours. Or on low for 8 hours chicken2 chicken7 chicken8 This chicken WAS like a grocery store chicken. But better.  The flavor was right on.  It basically fell apart into this casserole dish because it was so tender! This chicken was so much larger than a grocery store chicken, and tasted better.

I had enough chicken for dinner, 2 lunches AND I also made a chicken soup with broth and leftover chicken. I will FOR SURE be making this again.  It was a big hit with the whole family!

Was surprisingly good! My pickiest eater had 3 helpings. Not sure if the MSG in the Cavenders will hit me overnight, ut it did give the chicken a very subtle flavor, the 4 TB is definitely the right amount!! Adding to our dinner rotation!!

i made this tonight and it was absolutely delicious. This is the third rotisserie recipe I have tried and the best one. All of the other ones were very bland no matter what you did to it. But this one is a keeper. The all purpose Greek seasoning is the best. I did rub olive oil all over and then I seasoned the chicken, make sure you get under the skin. I let mine marinate overnight. Cooked on low the next day.

This sounds great. My family loves rotisserie chicken, it just falls apart on their fork, and that’s a good thing. 🙂

Making your own is so much better. Sometimes we make it on the weber grill outdoors. So good with some homemade cold slaw.

I love making rotisserie chicken! I usually do it in the oven, and slow roast it all day, but now I’m going to have to try it in my slow cooker. (less heat in the kitchen!)
