Healthy Coffee Frappe

Making banana milkshakes and Ice cream is a GREAT way to feel like you are eating something “dessert-like,” when, in reality, you are just eating a banana or two.

Bananas are filled with potassium and lots of other great stuff.  This healthy frappe has no added sugar; even though bananas have lots of natural sugar, it’s the right kind.  This healthy frappe is an excellent alternative to drive-through frappuccinos, with tons of caloriescalories and grams of sugar.

If you like this recipe, you should try my Salted Caramel Coffee Frappe as well.

This afternoon, when both kids were sleeping, I made a four-ingredient banana -Coffee Frappe.  It was beautiful and “blended-like” Just like those SUPER naughty frappes at Starbucks ( that I used to INHALE with no consequence when I was a teenager).  But this had no added sugar, and it was only FOUR ingredients.

Adding Vanilla extract to ” Frozen Banana” Based desserts is the secret.  It truly makes it taste like the REAL thing.
I think that it is super important to use Kirkland Signature Pure Vanilla, 16 Ounce, which is all-natural. It’s so much better. Kirkland Signature Pure Vanilla, 16 Ounce

We always keep frozen, over ripe bananas in the freezer for just these occasions. I just made this frappe for my daughter and I and it is amazing!!!! I have never had a frappe before but now i will make these on the regular. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe.

I’ve made something similar to this before but would love to do this exact one. For the banana haters, while I can in no way fathom how anyone could not like bananas, I respect your right to have poor taste in food (kidding, my sister hates bananas and I raz her about it from time to time). A healthy alternative although not a fruit, is a non-dairy ice cream called Arctic Zero, which comes in a wide variety of flavors. It’s also super low in calories and adds an ice cream texture to any smoothie/frappe. I get it at Kroger where I live.

I have never heard of Artic Zero. ( Living in Iowa Woes). Thanks for the great tip!

Any suggestions for a replacement for bananas? Or does this not have a banana flavor? I really dislike the taste of bananas unless it’s something like banana bread where the flavor is very mild. Suggestions?

I would use ice. then add milk and maple syrup to take place of the creaminess and the sweetness.

I’ve got lots of frozen bananas ready to use in our freezer and don’t think I’ve used any of them, so really should. Good tip on the vanilla extract.

Banana feels really heavy on the stomach. This drink, I imagine, is delicious for my liking! It’s not only healthy on the body but great on the taste buds. 🙂

Thanks for this recipe. Eating healthy is great but some times it can be so plain. This is a yummy way to enjoy something that’s also good for you.

The banana flavored coffee frap would really be tasty. I wonder why no coffee shop ever thought of that and it helps that it’s also healthy.

I just froze a few super ripe bananas and I think I am going to make these for my daughter. She is the only one of my kids that loves the taste of coffee. Can hardly wait to make them tomorrow.

Throw a cherry on top and I am sold 😉 This looks beyond delicious! I love how you over-filled the cup and that you know to call something a frappe! You must be a New England girl too.

Danielle July 25, 2014 - 2:02 am

That looks so good and messy….lol. I actually had a frappe earlier today and making it myself would have been a ton cheaper. Thank you for sharing.

This actually sounds and looks really good! I got scared when it said “no sugar”, but I am sure the bananas add enough natural sugars on their own! I have been drinking a lot of banana smoothies, especially with strawberry, lately.

maria @ close tohome July 25, 2014 - 12:35 am

I would never have thought to add bananas with coffee . We often have leftover coffee thanks for the tip.

Chrissy July 25, 2014 - 12:26 am

I have never had a frappe before. This looks really good. I love how you use the bananas in place of the ice cream.
