This homemade and healthy Oreo blizzard has a much lower sugar content than a real Oreo blizzard plus it can be made vegan. I promise that the kiddos will love it!
I decided over the weekend, that I am very “Goldilocks” about banana ice cream. If you make banana ice cream out of bananas that are overly ripe, it turns out too sweet. But, if you make banana ice cream out of bananas that are too green, then the banana ice cream really turns out too “banana-ee”.
I need my banana ice cream to turn out just right. My advice? stick those bananas in the freezer right when you see a few brown spots starting to appear. Then the banana ice cream will be perfect.
Anyway, I have had this DIY Oreo blizzard in the back of my mind for a while now. I just needed to find the day to make Chocolate Covered Katie’s Homemade Oreos. Oh my gosh you guys, you MUST try these! I am not going to post the recipe for the Oreos here, visit the link above if you want to make them for this recipe.
If you don’t have time to make homemade Oreos, I guess you can still use the real thing. But also, I have seen healthier, gluten-free “Oreos” at Whole foods too.
I actually didn’t make the cream filling for these Homemade Oreos. I couldn’t find one of the ingredients at any of the stores in my town, so I just decided that the blizzard would taste fine without the filling. ( although next time I am home in Chicago, I will pick that ingredient up)
Be sure to make the banana soft serve first. THEN add the Cookies to blend together. Otherwise the cookies will get too pulverized.
- 2 frozen bananas
- 3-4 oreo cookies. Homemade or Store bought
- 1 teaspoon of ground vanilla powder or pure vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup of a milk of your choosing
- In your blender. Mix bananas, vanilla and milk until you get the “soft serve” texture. Then add Oreo cookies and blend until you get your desired mixture.
My husband thought that maybe a spoonful of peanut butter would be a wonderful addition to this dessert. My kids and husband enjoyed this treat as a snack on Saturday afternoon. What a great treat it was. If you’re not sold on banana ice cream yet, then you must try this!
