If you are a mom or a dad of a toddler, then you might have the same problem as me. I can never guess exactly how many bananas to get from the store each week. Sometimes we are out of bananas in just a day or two, especially if Greg is on a banana kick too. Sometimes I end up with bunches of brown bananas. I usually freeze them or make banana muffins. But after seeing many caramelized banana recipes on Pinterest, I decided to try to cook some pureed banana down into caramel. With no sugar. Aren’t bananas sweet enough already? Especially the rips ones?
How to make Banana Caramel Sauce
1) Blend 2 ripe Bananas
2) On Low Heat, add your pureed bananas with 5 oz of water.
3) Cook for about 30 minutes on low. Stir the entire time. You do not want your mixture to burn.
4) If you want to give it a little kick, add some cinnamon or vanilla so spruce up the flavor a bit.
And that’s it!!!
The consistency is slightly different from that of regular caramel. If you want your banana caramel to have the same constancy as regular caramel, I would suggest using brown sugar as well. I just didn’t see the need for it, and I still came up with a great sauce.
This sauce was wonderful over ice cream. I am sure it would be wonderful over pancakes, waffles, french toast, cake, or as an apple dip as well.
What a healthy snack for any child!!!
